About Us

We exist to provide lifelong support to British Armed Forces members and their families – campaigning to improve their lives, organising local Poppy Appeal events, and remembering the fallen. We provide financial, social and emotional care and support to all members of the British Armed Forces – past and present - and their families.

Founded in 1921, the Legion is not just about those who fought in the two World Wars of the last century, but also about those involved in the many conflicts since 1945 and those still fighting for the freedom we enjoy today.

The Jersey Branch meets on the last Thursday of each month at 6pm at Legion House, 2-4 Great Union Street in St Helier.

We welcome men and women of all ages, whether they have served in the Armed Forces or not.

History of the RBL Jersey Branch

On Monday 20th November 1922, Lieutenant Colonel Walter A Stocker chaired a meeting at the Stag Hotel, Snow Hill.  Attending this meeting were 20 other ex-servicemen, mostly veterans of the recently ended Great War.

They had assembled for an important purpose.  Whilst fighting may have ceased, the impact of WW1 continued to be felt by those who served, as well as the families of those killed or wounded and support must be provided to them.  The Government were only able to offer limited assistance so support had to come from elsewhere.  There was unanimous agreement to this and the Jersey Branch of the British Legion was formed – a new organisation dedicated to this cause.

And thus, in December 1922, the British Legion received a request to form a new branch based in Jersey.  Soon after, an official letter from British Legion headquarters in London approved this request – Jersey could establish its own branch.  In 1971, Queen Elizabeth II granted the Legion a special honour and the official "Royal" prefix was added, a recognition which was warmly received.
